[4] Francisco Cerundolo (ARG) vs Gabriel Diallo (CAN) First Meeting.
Francisco Cerundolo is a 26-year-old Argentine tennis player currently ranked at World No. 31 with a career-high ranking of No. 19. In 2024, he has a win-loss record of 31-27 and won the Umag title. Throughout 2022, he broke into the Top 100 and achieved a new career-high ranking 11 times. In June 2023, he reached his first Grand Slam 4R at the Roland Garros, defeating No. 8 Fritz in the 3R, which propelled him to his career-high ranking of No. 19.
In July 2022, Cerundolo moved into the Top 25 after defeating No. 5 Ruud on his way to winning his first ATP Tour title in Bastad. Just a week later, he reached the semifinals in Hamburg after defeating No. 8 Rublev. He became the first Argentine grass court ATP Tour champion since Javier Frana in 1995 when he won his second ATP Tour title at the 2023 Eastbourne.
Notably, at the 2022 Miami, Cerundolo became the lowest-ranked semifinalist in the tournament’s 37-year history as the World No. 103. He was also the first player to reach the semifinals in his ATP Masters 1000 main draw debut since Janowicz in 2012 Paris.
Cerundolo comes from a tennis family, with his father Alejandro having played professional tennis. His younger brother, Juan Manuel, won the 2021 Cordoba title, and his sister, Constanza, played for the Argentine field hockey team that won the gold medal at the 2018 Youth Olympics.
Cerundolo is seeking his sixth ATP Tour final of his career, aiming for his second of 2024. If he reaches his first hard court final, he would become the sixth Argentine male player in the Open Era to reach tour-level finals on clay, grass, and hard courts. The other Argentine players who have accomplished this are Guillermo Vilas, David Nalbandian, Guillermo Coria, Guillermo Canas, and Javier Frana.

If he reaches the final, he aims to become the seventh Canadian to reach an ATP Tour final in this century and the lowest-ranked finalist in the event’s history, surpassing No. 82 Kwon in 2021. He currently ranks No. 100 on the PIF ATP Live Rankings and would reach No. 87 with a final, giving him a chance to secure his Top 100 debut on Monday.
Other Canadian men who have reached tour-level finals since 2000 include Milos Raonic, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, Vasek Pospisil, Frank Dancevic, and Brayden Schnur.
