What Time Will Buyunchaokete Play Against Nishesh Basavareddy?
Buyunchaokete and Basavareddy are on the Day 1 Schedule at Bnp Paribas Open 2025 on Wednesday 5 March 2025. Lets breakdown the career, past stats and recent form of these players and predict who will get the victory.
Who Will Win In This Head-To-Head?
Buyunchaokete (CHN), 23 years old and currently ranked World No. 71, achieved his first ranking point in January 2022 and broke into the Top 100 in September 2023. He reached his career-high ranking of No. 65 in December 2024. In his recent performances, he reached back-to-back semifinals on home soil, losing to Zhang in the first all-Chinese ATP Tour semifinal in Hangzhou, and defeating No. 6 Rublev for the biggest win of his career to reach the Beijing semifinals where he was defeated by No. 1 Sinner.
Buyunchaokete made his tour-level debut at the 2022 Davis Cup, losing to M. Cuevas, and then made his ATP Tour debut at the 2023 ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai as a wildcard. He earned his first career win over No. 45 Kecmanovic in the first round via RET. With a 61-36 record in Challengers, including 3-2 in finals, he has won titles at the 2023 Seoul, 2024 Wuxi, and 2024 Granby tournaments. Notably, he played against his tennis idol, Andy Murray, at the 2023 Surbiton CH, but lost in straight sets. In the 2019 Australian Open boys’ singles, Buyunchaokete defeated future Top 10 player Rune on his way to the third round. He also reached the quarterfinals in boys’ doubles at the 2019 Roland Garros with Khan and the 2020 Australian Open with Mitsui.
It is important to note that Buyunchaokete is currently playing in his first ATP Masters 1000 event outside of Shanghai. His previous appearances in Indian Wells resulted in a second-round exit in 2023 and a first-round exit in 2024. He aims to become the fourth Chinese man to win a main draw match in Indian Wells, following in the footsteps of Wu in 2023 and Shang and Zhang in the previous year. However, he has a winless record of 0-5 against Americans on the ATP Tour.

Nishesh Basavareddy (USA), 19 years old and ranked World No. 101 (career-high), reached No. 3 in the junior rankings in January 2023. He then broke into the Top 200 in September 2024 and decided to leave college and turn professional in December 2024. In March 2025, Basavareddy achieved his career-high ranking of No. 101. His breakthrough came at the 2025 Auckland, where he reached his first ATP Tour semifinal as a qualifier. He had notable victories over defending champion No. 23 Tabilo in the second round and his compatriot Michelsen in the quarterfinals.
Basavareddy made his tour-level debut at the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals, with a round robin record of 1-2. He earned his first win by defeating No. 50 Shang and then made his Grand Slam main draw debut at the 2025 Australian Open, where he faced the 10-time champion Djokovic in the first round and was defeated. With a 50-20 record in Challengers, including 2-5 in finals, he has captured titles at the 2024 Tiburon and Puerto Vallarta tournaments. Prior to turning professional, Basavareddy played college tennis for Stanford University, where he was a two-time ITA All-American. In 2022, he won the US Open boys’ doubles title with his partner Baris, becoming the fifth all-American team to achieve this feat in the past century.
Basavareddy is making his ATP Masters 1000 debut at Indian Wells and is aiming to join Fritz, Tiafoe, and Michelsen as the only American teenagers to record a main draw win in Indian Wells in the last 12 editions of the event (since 2013). So far this year, he has obtained all three of his ATP Tour wins, which led him to his first ATP Tour semifinal in Auckland.
