Ricky Walden, the renowned Snooker player, caused concern among his fans recently when he was rushed to the hospital after a match at the German Masters. Despite enduring pain to secure a victory over Dylan Emery, Walden’s condition led to a diagnosis of pancreatitis during a medical assessment on-site.
After spending a night in a German hospital, Walden was regretfully forced to withdraw from his third-round match against Barry Hawkins. Subsequently, Hawkins lost to world champion Kyren Wilson in the final. Upon returning to the UK, Walden was informed that he needed surgery for his condition.
“His team is hopeful for a speedy recovery, aiming for him to compete in a Welsh Open qualifier on February 6,” stated a spokesperson.
Describing the situation, a manager shared, “He needs his gallbladder removed and that is in the plan at home. This is a flare-up with the same condition. He may have a gallstone in the wrong place or whatever. He is going to be in the hospital for a few days.”
Despite the setback, Walden is determined to make a comeback and participate in the Welsh Open qualifiers. His manager added, “He’s still hoping to play. If he comes back and is in good shape, then he will go to Welsh Open qualifying. Fingers crossed.”
This would mark a quick return for Hawkins, who had also faced health issues before his match at the German Masters, with intense pain leading to hospitalization afterward.
In light of these developments, the snooker community eagerly awaits Walden’s recovery and potential return to the green baize. Stay tuned for further updates on this story.
